Cognitive, Educational & Behavioural Assessments

  • Cognitive Assessments $1,200

    Children and Adults may require cognitive assessments for a range of reasons.

    Often known as “IQ” tests, Cognitive Assessments may be a gateway to gifted and talented programs, requirements for certain job roles or admission to special needs programs.

    At Lamplight, we provide valid, standardised cognitive assessments for use with Schools, Universities, NDIS or potential employers.

    Cognitive Assessments may also be used to

    - Gauge academic achievement, assess for learning difficulties in reading or writing.

  • Educational Assessments

    Educational Assessments $1,200

    An educational assessment, (sometimes called an academic assessment), measures how a child is performing in a range of academic skills compared with kids their age.  

    Educational assessments help psychologists to identify a child’s strengths and ability levels in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics and written expression. 

    Educational assessments can be conducted to help with the following: 

    - Identifying a child’s level of academic skill in specific areas 

    - Diagnosis of a specific learning difficulty in reading or mathematics

    - Developing strategies and classroom accommodations to support specific learning strengths and difficulties 

    - Informing the development of an Individualised Learning Plan 

  • Behavioural Assessments

    Behavioural Assessments $1,200

    A behavioural assessment involves a combination of parent and teacher interviews, observations, questionnaires and assessment tools.

    A comprehensive assessment helps you understand the behaviours and emotions of children and adolescents such as aggression, anxiety, social skills, self-esteem etc. 

    Behavioural assessments can be helpful to

    - Identify challenging behaviours that are age inappropriate

    - Aid the diagnosis of behavioural disorders such as ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) or Conduct Disorder 

    - Evaluate the of effectiveness of behavioural interventions

  • ADHD Assessments

    ADHD Assessments $1,500

    Do you have difficulty sustaining attention in meetings, when reading or doing paperwork? Do you find yourself frequently losing things like your keys, phone or documents?

    These are the common signs of ADHD that prompt some people to explore a possible ADHD diagnosis.

    ADHD is a persistent pattern of:

    Inattention, Hyperactivity or Impulsivity that has been present since childhood.

    At Lamplight, we provide a sensitive, valid, neuro-affirming assessment for ADHD. You may use this to gather information about how your mind works or to tailor psychological therapy to your particular thinking style.

    As a psychological practice, we can’t prescribe medication for ADHD and you might need confirmation of the diagnosis from a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician.

  • Autism Assessments

    Autism Assessments $1,500

    Autism is identified by persistent differences in Social Communication and Interaction. This might be experienced as differences in back-and-forth conversation, differences in eye contact or body language and preference for special interests over social contact.

    It is also identified by a marked preference for sameness, intense focus on specific topics and an extreme preference or aversion to certain sights, textures or sounds.

    An Autism Assessment might provide much needed relief, if you or a loved one suspects they may be Autistic or have Autistic traits.

    There is no medication for Autism. At Lamplight, we consider discovering Autism can be a wonderful gift that opens a world of self-acceptance and understanding. We provide neuro-affirming assessment and therapy so if you suspect you might be Autistic, please feel free to register here for an assessment.

  • Hybrid Assessments

    Hybrid Assessments $2,100

    A hybrid assessment is called for, for example to explore both ADHD & Autism. Sometimes parents may be concerned about educational achievement and ADHD.

At Lamplight Psychology, we provide comprehensive assessments for autism and ADHD for children, adolescents and adults, in a supportive and neuro-affirming environment. Our approach recognizes autism as a natural part of human diversity, and we focus on identifying individual strengths as well as challenges.

We understand that seeking an autism assessment can be a significant step, and our process is designed to be respectful, empowering, and collaborative. Each assessment is tailored to the client’s unique experience and needs, incorporating clinical interviews, standardised tools, and both client and caregiver insights. Our goal is to provide meaningful understanding and practical recommendations that support personal growth, self-acceptance, and access to appropriate supports.

We welcome people of all neurotypes, genders, sexual identities, cultural backgrounds and abilities.

Lamplight Psychology provides a thorough, evidence-based neuro-affirming assessment for Autism or ADHD. It can be a stressful process exploring the possibility that you or your loved-one has ADHD or Autism so it’s recommended you have some support through this process. Even if you are not diagnosed with Autism or the assessment was inconclusive, we will offer you the best possible support for your symptoms. 

As we are a Clinical Psychology practice, we cannot prescribe medication. However, if medication is something you wish to explore, we can link you in with an appropriate prescriber.

Assessment Fees

The full cost of an Autism Assessment is $1,500. This is inclusive of three appointments, questionnaires and testing, and Summary Letter. This cost can be paid in full or paid over all three appointments. Each session will incur a cost of $500.​

If you under 25 years there are Medicare Rebates available for both assessment and Treatment of ADHD or Autism. Simply bring a referral from your GP along to your first appointment. You may pay the cost of the assessment across all 3 sessions and claim the rebate for each session. Unfortunately, our cancellation policy still applies for Assessments so please make sure to schedule appointments at a time that is likely to be clear and you feel well rested. 

If you are over 25 yrs old, there is not Medicare Rebate available but you are still welcome to pay for the assessment across the three appointments.

The Assessment Process

Our Autism Assessments involve three scheduled appointments (usually in person but can be via Telehealth if necessary). These appointments are approximately 50minutes each in length.

    Prior to Appointment #1

    You will need to gather school reports, previous IQ tests or clinical assessments. You’ll complete more in-depth questionnaires, exercises and an interview will allow you to discuss many aspects of your emotional, physical and mental wellbeing.

    Appointments #1-2

    This is to establish whether the diagnostic criterion for Autism or ADHD is met and identify whether other conditions are likely to be present. The psychologist will need to review any previous school reports, employment evaluations, cognitive tests, speech/learning assessments (please bring these with you to your first appointment).

    Appointment #3

    You will be provided with the outcomes of the assessment, feedback and options for support and intervention. You will be provided with a letter stating the outcome of assessment.

Other Essential Parts of the Assessment

  • You will complete standardised questionnaires between sessions.

  • You will need to identify at least two people who know you well. This includes someone who knew you as a child (e.g., parent) and someone who knows you well in your current life (e.g., partner or close friend).

  • These people will be asked to complete a standardised questionnaire or attend an interview to answer specific questions about you.
