Cultural Safety & Inclusion Statement

Cultural Safety & Inclusive Practice

Lamplight Psychology is committed to providing culturally safe, respectful and inclusive psychological care to everyone who seeks support. We recognise and honour the diversity of human experience — including cultural heritage; ethnicity; First Nations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) identity; language; age; gender; sexuality; family structure; neurodiversity and cognitive differences; disability; mental health history; socioeconomic background; and life experiences.

We understand that each person’s identity and background can influence how they experience the world, relationships, and mental health. We commit to:

  • Listening with curiosity and humility — not assumption — to learn about your values, preferences and cultural context.

  • Being open to adapting therapy, assessments or communication to respect your cultural, neurodivergent or accessibility needs (e.g. flexible session format, sensory-aware spaces, communication style, use of support persons, interpreters or family/whānau if desired).

  • Inviting and supporting you — if you wish — to involve chosen support persons (family, carers, cultural mentors/elders, peer supporters) during assessments or therapy.

  • Reflecting on our own values, biases and assumptions, and engaging in ongoing learning and supervision to ensure culturally responsive, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming practice.

  • Safeguarding confidentiality, dignity, and respect for all clients equally — regardless of background, identity or ability.

If you have particular cultural, neurodivergent, identity or accessibility needs or preferences, I welcome you to share these at intake, or at any point during therapy or assessment.
